“I know I can sell dead sharks so from a sales perspective I’m more nervous about how these will be received.”

Damien Hirst’s new exhibition opens today featuring paintings that he promises are his work alone. I find the imagery more akin to branding than revelation (e.g. skulls, shark bones, ashtrays). These 25 paintings and the shuttering of his two studios clearly marks a shift from his pre-recession hustle.
