High Five is a large-scale art project taking place in Austin, Texas that covers the roofs of five parallel buildings on Congress Avenue with highly reflective violet tarps in order to show up on the satellite imagery used by internet-based interfaces such as maps.google.com. The project is inspired by the visual interface provided by Google’s mapping services. Google updates this imagery every 18 months as an imaging satellite completes another orbit. By using many small 1 foot wide tarps stretched across each roof, the piece is custom fit to each roof’s dimensions and able to withstand all weather conditions. The work is fully realized when High Five is dismantled after images of it have been integrated into Google’s site.

- High Five uses existing software interfaces to create an internet-based work with physical means. This software proposal was built using freely available tools developed by Google and is licensed under the GNU Public License.
