software

My job as a web developer gave me access to several very proficient PHP programmers, namely Mike Bailey from REAL Software. Using some techniques that we developed for the realsoftware.com website, I created Selfish to research PHP’s ability to create graphics from algorithms. The finished work is /selfish/05/ where the user is able to enter numbers, and manipulate the code’s output. It is accompanied by the code of 4 initial iterations that preceded this final goal, so that the process of developing the work is revealed.

The work was originally conceived as part of the software gallery, scheme23a.com, and in 2006 a derivative was used for the generative backgrounds at Complicate Everything.

This work is released under the GNU Public License and may be modified and re-used as long as the “about.txt” document accompanies the new version.
